Moderate west to northwesterly winds will gradually transition northerly overnight tonight into Tuesday. Winds over the coastal waters will strengthen beginning Tuesday as surface high pressure builds and moves eastward. Gale force gusts increase in likelihood and areal coverage Tuesday night through Wednesday night with the strongest gusts located along the big sur coast and northern outer coastal waters. Gale watches have been issued from Tuesday night to Wednesday night. At the same time, significant wave heights will build to heights to 15 to 16 feet by mid-week. Conditions will be extremely hazardous for all but the largest vessels Tuesday and Wednesday and extreme caution should be exercised during this time. |
